Introductory lectures and competition of essays for secondary school students on Development cooperation

Pilot project “Introductory lectures and competition of essays for secondary school students on Development cooperation” (August – December, 2008).

The EDC in cooperation with Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Republic of Latvia, implemented the pilot project, the aim of which was to broaden the students’ knowledge on development cooperation and to make them interested in the global role of development cooperation and Latvia’s contribution to it. More than 100 students from Smiltene gymnasium and Friendly Appeal Cēsis State gymnasium participated in the competition. The young people in their essays reflected the opinions, which were supported by facts, numbers, references to studies and experts’ views, as well as offered their ideas and solutions, expressed their personal views about the possibilities and challenges of development cooperation. Along with this the drawing competition on development cooperation was organized. The calendar for year 2009 “Essays and drawings on DEVELOPMENT COOPERATION” was published as a result of the project and which published the best essays and drawings on development cooperation. The pilot project was implemented in cooperation with the Department of Development cooperation policy, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Republic of Latvia.
